Where is the homeland of sudoku ?
What is wasabi paste actually made of?
Is sake really referred to as sake ?
What does the Japanese cover of 'The Witcher' look like?
Is this woodblock print showing… Godzilla?

These are only some of the questions we are trying to answer in the exhibition  'A Japanese Puzzle’ at the Manggha Museum. We guide our visitors through ten sections, starting with facts on the geography, demographics, religion, and symbols. Then we move on to festivals, cuisine and textiles, followed by the world of Japanese calligraphy and paper. From there we take them to games – both traditional and modern – and comics. In the last section, which we reach passing bonsai and ikebana on our way, we need to take our shoes off: we will be stepping into the space of a traditional Japanese home, with a veranda overlooking a Zen rock garden.

During your visit you will be able to try on a yukata, try your hand at calligraphy, take a walk in your socks on tatami mats, and collect a set of ink stamps. If you spend some extra time at the exhibition, you will get a chance to weave a kumihimo bracelet, learn proper chopstick manners or play Playstation. And that’s not all!

There are a number of workshops scheduled throughout the exhibition period, as extra opportunities to learn such skills as calligraphy or how to make woodblock prints or washi ningyō dolls.
