ATTACK!

3 - 13 September 2015

Opening: 03.09.2015, 20.00

This pioneering project, which combines fashion, photography and multimedia, was engendered by the collaboration of two Krakow-based artists, Joanna Hawrot and Katarzyna Widmańska, who use modern artistic forms to reinterpret anime. The exhibition exploits various means of artistic expression in an interdisciplinary manner, combining fashion and visual arts. The black-and-white stylistics of Katarzyna Widmańska’s photography and her moving depictions of fighting female warriors were inspired directly by the Japanese anime aesthetics.* The photographs are accompanied by art kimonos designed by Joanna Hawrot and an expressive fashion film made by the REDЯUM IMAGE duo, illustrating the struggle or clash of opposing energies. The intensity of the image, the fast pace of the movements and the models’ Japanese costumes make up a picture on the boundary line between a fashion video and an action movie. The project finale is designed as a multimedia fashion show, featuring a symphonic concert by the Lutosławski Orchestra Moderna.

JOANNA HAWROT is a modern fashion brand based on the name of the Krakow-based designer, the Hush Selected 2014 Designer of the Year #BEGINDESIRE. Her characteristic style is a melange of futuristic and stylized elements, an approach in which fashion is perceived as a fully-fledged art. The thematic lines of the collection, presented in the form of art installations, are an embodiment of the brand philosophy, FROM FASHION TO ART. The brand agenda is to project an image of an uncompromising woman communicating with reality through her attire, to generate an aesthetic that moves easily between haute couture and prêt-à-porter.

The artist has had over a dozen solo and group exhibitions, in addition to numerous publications in Polish and foreign press.
