Sanae Hattori – Textile Art

We would like to warmly invite you to come and see the exhibition entitled ‘Sanae Hattori – Textile Art’ which will be held from 5th to 7th of July at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology. The guest artist will present broadly recognized and rewarded patchwork kimonos as well as other elements of this fascinating collection.

Sanae Hattori was born in Tokio. She graduated from the Joshibi University of Art and Design where she specialized in Japanese style embroidery. Her body of work comprises of approximately 60 pieces of art which were repeatedly awarded at international competitions. Moreover, Sanae has given lectures at her alma mater and numerous other Japanese and foreign universities.

Her art is widely recognized even outside the artistic circles. Among other things she was asked to create art for the occasion of Emperor Naruhito’s wedding. Another example of her work is the design of Sumo wrestlers’ formal attire called keshō-mawashi. A total of eleven Japanese books and countless publications in international magazines were dedicated to her work.
