This artistic comic book authored by Jakub Woynarowski (b. 1984), a young artist based in Krakow, was published to mark the 15th anniversary of the foundation of the Manggha Museum, on the initiative of Andrzej Wajda and Krystyna Zachwatowicz.

‘Manggha is also the title of my series of 40 prints – a “visual essay”, which is an adaptation of selected themes in Feliks Jasieński’s literary opus magnum. (…) Trying to convey faithfully the contradictions characteristic of Jasieński’s style – balancing in judgments between sublimity and pettiness – I decided to combine classic realistic draughtsmanship with a language of allusive abstraction. (…) Departing – in my story – from the classical understanding of “literariness”, I strove to highlight the features which Feliks Jasieński, as a connoisseur of Japanese art, valued the most: silence, understatement, simplicity of the means of expression.’
