The publication, which accompanied the exhibition of Javanese batik at the Manggha Centre, contains illustrations of the exhibits, outlines the history of this traditional Javanese art in Poland, and provides an easy-to-understand description of the batik method (technique used to make patterns on fabric through application of wax and dyeing those areas that are left uncovered) as used on the Indonesian island of Java, and discusses the creation of textiles and other handicraft products in a similar technique in Krakow between 1913 and 1930. It contains the rudimentary information about Javanese batik art and a brief commentary on the traditional aesthetics, composition, technique and technology of dyeing fabrics.
