WORKSHOPS THAT REQUIRE PREVIOUSENROLMENT
Origami is the traditional art of folding paper. The name is composed of two Japanese characters which are read as oru (“to fold”) and kami (“paper”). To practise origami, you need a sheet of paper of appropriate size and shape, and instructions on the sequence of folds that will produce the desired shape. The art makes it possible to create paper figures of e.g. plants and animals, objects referring to the various seasons of the year, and traditional Japanese accessories.
The workshop will be held inside the Japanese Language School at the Manggha Museum on Sunday, 8 May 2022, in the following sequence:
Please communicate your intention to enrol by email to recepcja@manggha.pl; write “Origami 08.05” in the subject line. State the participants’ full names and age, preferred language hour (Polish or Ukrainian), and also your phone number. Note that the number of participants is limited to 15 per group, so early enrolment is advisable. The cost of participation is included in the price of a family ticket (45 PLN), which covers a maximum of 4 participants: 1 adult caretaker + 3 children or 2 adult caretakers + 2 children. Payment to be made on the spot upon arrival on the day of the workshop.
Please comply with the organizational rules of the workshop: do not leave the children unattended by an adult at any time. We will enrol only teams including at least one adult and at least one child aged 5 to 8.
Workshop inspired by traditional Japanese fans called uchiwa – nearly circular in shape, not folded, made of paper and bamboo sticks. Uchiwa became widespread in Japan in the 14th century. What are they good for today? They can be a tasteful gift, and of course they offer a way of cooling oneself on a hot and stuffy day. They also come in handy when you’re having a barbecue and need to fan the fire. Traditionally, the uchiwa is part of dancers’ outfits during Japanese summer festivals.
During the workshop, the participants will create their individual decorations on the blank paper surface of the fan that will be supplied to each of them. Japanese traditions and nature will be their sources of inspiration. The workshop is intended as an easygoing, fun and intuitive arts and crafts activity.
The workshop will be held at the Europe–Far East Gallery on Sunday, 8 May 2022, in the following sequence:
