The year 2026 has been proclaimed the Year of Andrzej Wajda by the Senate of the Republic of Poland. To mark the occasion, the Manggha Museum is going to prepare a special exhibition to honour its founder. For the first time, his wife and our museum’s co-founder, Krystyna Zachwatowicz-Wajda, will share her memories of him. It will be a personal tale of the artist’s childhood, the occupation years, his earliest attempts at painting, his studies at Kraków’s Academy of Fine Arts and the film school in Łódź, as well as some of his films and theatre productions. The exhibition will be based on the late director’s private notes and drawings, both of which he added to his archive.
